The Mondeo is a midsize front-wheel-drive built in Europe that is based on a Mazda platform. It loses out to the Japanese with a combination of engines that lag behind in power, its smaller size and its expensive dealer maintenance charges. The Mondeo actually a good family sedan, but its image is also diluted due to fleet sales as taxis. The Mondeo is a tremendous success in Europe though, simply because its handling is outstanding, rivalling more expensive cars like Alfa Romeo, all for a very affordable price. The interior is fairly attractive and put together well. The Mondeo does have a sizeable interior for its size. The base Mondeo is powered by the 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, available with either a manual or an automatic transmission. A 2.5-litre V6 engine is coupled with a five-speed automatic transmission in the higher model.
