The M6 Cabriolet uses a twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automanual gearbox. Fuel economy is apparently better by 30% compared to the old V10-powered model. Other mechanical features include BMW's electronically-controlled Active M Differential, massive 16.1-inch carbon-ceramic rotors in front with blue 6-piston calipers, 15.6-inch rotors in the back with a single-piston caliper, M-specific 19-inch alloys with 265/40 ultra-high performance tyres in front and 295/35 tyres in the rear, with 20-inch available as an option. The M6 features both Brake Energy Regeneration and the Auto Start-Stop function. It comes equipped with Cornering Brake Control, Dynamic Brake Control, Brake Assistant, Brake Fade Compensation function, a Brake Drying function and Start-off Assistant.

Few owners have reported jerky 1st to 2nd gear change but that is considered normal, battery draining from being parked for too long, a weak battery can cause random warning messages, cars not driven hard get brake noises and few interior plastics make creaking noises.
