Overview

With the Sharan, VW properly wets its feet in the minivan segment, though it is falling behind the modern competition nowadays, considering its 1995 origins. The Sharan is not a true VW, being based on a Ford minivan, and also sold as a rebadged Seat. Revamped in 2000, and facelifted for 2004, it provides ample room for the driver and six adult passengers to sit back, relax and enjoy their individually formed 'business class' seats. The Sharan offers the flexibility of removing the rear seats to open up a massive 2,610 cubic litres of storage space. Powered by two aging VW engines, namely the 1.8-litre turbo four-cylinder and the 2.8-litre VR6 units, they can be had with a manual or an automatic.
