Toyota 86 2013 Overview

In what could possibly be the most hotly-anticipated sports car of the decade, the Toyota 86 finally made its showroom debut as a mid-2012 model. The 86 is a collaborative effort with Subaru, and therefore versions are available under both nameplates. Available in various trim levels, the front-engine rear-wheel-drive car comes with a Subaru-sourced 2.0-litre 4-cylinder direct-injection boxer engine, mated to either a 6-speed manual or automatic. For some markets such as the UAE, the manual will only be available in base form, with higher trim levels available on special-order. The automatic can be had with all trim levels. Standard features include cloth sports seats, halogen headlights, fog lamps, CD/MP3 stereo with USB port, Bluetooth, manual a/c, common power accessories and 16-inch alloy wheels with 205/55 tyres, as well as a stability control system with three modes, ABS and a full set of front, side, curtain and knee airbags. The manual version additionally gets a limited-slip diff, but not the basic automatic model. The mid-range model comes in automatic with paddle-shifters, a limited-slip diff, auto a/c, HID headlights, smart keyless entry with starter button, extra digital speedo, cruise control and 17-inch alloys with 215/45 tyres. The top model additionally gets a coloured front grille and rear bumper garnish, some tacked-on fins on the C-pillar, leather upholstery, and floor illumination. The Saudi market gets navigation with the top model, and can even be had with a manual. An optional TRD body kit will be available separately in some markets by 2013, and marketed as the GT in KSA. Specs may vary between different GCC countries.
