Hyundai Terracan 2003 Overview
The Terracan is odd one out in the Hyundai range. It is a capable midsize off-road vehicle based on the old Mitsubishi Pajero, just the right size to not be too big on the roads. The problem is that it became outdated as soon as it was released. This 80s-style 4WD does have a fairly spacious interior and loaded with features to compete in this class, with a low price to boot. Powered by a 3.5-litre V6 mated to an automatic, it comes with beefy tyres on 16-inch alloy wheels and a full-time 4WD system with active torque transfer. Standard features include power steering, single airbag, a nifty limited slip differential, central door locking system, side steps, roof rack, power windows and electric mirrors, front and rear a/c, front fog lamps, radio and cassette player with 4 speakers and hidden antenna, and rear wiper with washer. Options include dual airbags, ABS brakes, keyless entry with anti-theft system, leather interior upholstery, useless rear spoiler, fake wood trim, cruise control, digital multi-metre, electric driver's seat, CD player with 6 speakers, and a few more storage areas.
Hyundai Terracan 2003 Reliability & Resale Value

Known Problems | Many have problems with limited-slip differential, which is apparently remedied if high-quality aftermarket oil is used. Cabin trim wears prematurely, and tailgate strut fails within first few years. Rear suspension bottoms out easily, which is a design fault. Various small random problems with central locking, failing gauges, wipers and even horn. Problems apparently get worse after 100,000 kms. |
