Overview
The Ford Flex was launched in the summer of 2008 as a new-for-2009 model. Touted as a crossover, it is more of a boxy-shaped minivan alternative. Offered in various trim levels, the Flex is powered by a 3.5-litre V6 engine mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission and a choice of front-wheel-drive or all-wheel drive. Airy and spacious, It offers four forward-opening doors, seating for six or seven depending on chosen options, and can be had with a refrigerator, dual panoramic sunroofs, cruise control, common power accessories, capless fuel-filler, HID headlights and LED tails, two-tone paintjob, programmable interior LED lighting, 18-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels, 10-speaker Sony stereo, and Ford's new Sync multimedia system which can connect and control any Bluetooth phone or USB music player. Safety features include Advance Trac with Roll Stability Control, multiple front and side airbags and ABS brakes.

Known Problems
Intermittent wobble of steering wheel during low-speed braking requires replacing rotors, pads and calipers. "Power Transfer Unit" for optional AWD system has a known seal leak in early models, so transmission fluid leaks onto hot exhaust manifold and smelly smoke permeates cabin when vehicle comes to a stop, fixed under warranty. Reports of prematurely-wearing tie rods, defective throttle body, water leaking into headlights and tail lamps, water leaking into cabin, broken door handles, broken rear-seat latches and minor electrical issues involving O2 sensors, parking sensors and Bluetooth.
