Overview
The Toyota GR86 is the second generation of Toyota’s compact rear-wheel-drive sports coupe, co-developed with Subaru (as the BRZ). It carries forward the lightweight, driver-focused formula of the original GT86, but with more power, sharper handling, and a more modern interior.
Engine & Performance
Under the hood is a 2.4-litre naturally aspirated 4-cylinder boxer engine, producing 231 hp and 250 Nm of torque. That’s a big step up from the old 2.0-litre engine, eliminating much of the “torque dip” that enthusiasts disliked in the first-gen model. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters.
The GR86 accelerates from 0–100 km/h in around 6.3 seconds (manual) and a touch slower with the automatic. Top speed is around 225 km/h. A Torsen limited-slip differential is standard, improving cornering traction.
