Overview
The Dodge Ram had been extensively re-engineered for 2006, with a minor restyling and an upgraded interior, having been originally redesigned in 2002. It has a new hydroformed frame that's boxed its full length to provide more strength than in any previous model. New suspension and body mounts also improve ride and handling, though it is still no luxury sports sedan. Inside the Ram, the instrument panel, centre console and seats have been redesigned for more car-like comfort, while new entertainment features have been introduced. The standard motor for the Middle East is the 5.7-litre Hemi V8 engine, which featured the new Multi-Displacement System from 2006, a setup that shuts down four of the Hemi's eight cylinders when they are not needed. Dodge claims the switchover is seamless, and that fuel economy is improved by as much as 20 percent. Adding to the Hemi's responsive nature is a five-speed automatic transmission.
