2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class brings subtle updates
The Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class is an essential model for the brand. It started as the M-Class that came out in 1997, and four generations later, it runs as the GLE, pipped only by the mighty G as the longest-standing SUV in the Mercedes-Benz line-up. Now, the fourth-gen model gets a facelift in the form of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE.
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE does not bring many changes as it is only a mid-life facelift. The subtle visual changes start with an updated grill, accents on the air intakes, and new lighting elements inside the headlamps and tail lights. Borrowed bits from the Maybach line – Piano Black Flowing Lines Trim, a new steering wheel with capacitive touch buttons, and chrome trims on the AC vents sum up the changes inside the new GLE.
The most significant change in the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE is the addition of a new plug-in-hybrid variant, the GLE 400e 4Matic. It combines a 2.0-litre petrol engine with a 134-hp electric motor to produce a combined output of 381 hp and 650 Nm of torque. It can run on electric juice alone, but Mercedes-Benz has not publicized a range figure yet. Another significant hardware update is adding a 48-volt mild-hybrid technology to all other variants, making the entire 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE range electrified.
On the AMG side, the GLE 53 and GLE 63 S get special visual updates. But everything under the skin remains the same, except a larger turbo for the GLE 53 that increases the torque to 560 Nm. The AMGs will also receive more standard equipment in the Air Balance Package, heads-up display, etc. Another addition to the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE equipment list is an Off-Road Engineering Package for the GLE 580 trim that lifts the car by 30 mm and adds an underride guard.
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE facelift should give the SUV more biting power to spar with its increasingly competitive rivals. It will go on sale later this year, close to which the prices will be announced.
