2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6 expands the EV lineup

Hyundai Ioniq5 is revered by many. The purpose-built EV flattered many with its dynamics, packaging, and moreover, style. Hyundai is keen on expanding the Ioniq range, and here is the next installment. The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6 joins the party.

Exterior design

The first thing that our eyes lock onto, is the design of the Ioniq 6. It is quite unique just like the Ioniq 5 but in a different way. Where the Ioniq 5 tries to bring a neo-retro vibe with straight lines, the 6 is all about the curves. The silhouette is a low-slung, round arc that helps the Ioniq 6 with a low-drag coefficient of 0.21. This is just 0.1 more than the Tesla Model S and the Mercedes-Benz EQS, the slipperiest cars on the market now. To accent this curve, Hyundai layers it with their Parametric Pixel accents, especially on the lights.

Interior design

The interior is no different from the exterior. The 12.0-inch touchscreen and another driver’s display are loaded to the gills with the latest connectivity options. Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, come as standard. The navigation system shows a real-time map based on the range, allowing the driver to choose a route with the best charging options.

Spicing up the cabin even further is a 64-colour ambient-lighting system that changes colour as the speed changes, with a “Speed Sync” mode. To elevate this experience more, there is an electric active sound design (e-ASD) that funnels a futuristic noise into the cabin as the vehicle speed increases. It also gets Relaxation Comfort Seats up front that allows the driver and front passenger to relax after a drive, or while waiting for the Ioniq 6 to charge.

Performance and Range

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 sits on the same E-GMP architecture as the Ioniq 5. It offers either a 53 kWh or a 77.4 kWh battery unit. The range for the larger battery-equipped Ioniq 6 sits at a WLTP-rated 610 kms, more than the Ioniq 5’s 507 km with the same battery. The power comes from either a single-motor rear-wheel-drive setup or a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. The dual-motor version makes 320 hp while the power output of the single-motor version is still under the covers.

The electrical architecture of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 uses 800V or 400V systems, with the capability to seamlessly switch between them. This can enable very quick charging. Connected to a 350-kW fast charger, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 can charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes.

If the Ioniq 6 can impress the automotive community like the Ioniq 5, Hyundai may have another winner in their hands. On paper, it certainly looks like it.

There is no word yet on whether the Hyundai Ioniq 6 will officially be available in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and other GCC markets.
