Mercedes-AMG EQE 43 slips in under the EQE 53

Mercedes-AMG electrification continues with yet another launch. Once known for their explosive petrol engines, the brand is now focusing on electric cars. The recently launched Mercedes-Benz AMG 53 is an example of this move. But it also has a less-powerful sibling, the AMG EQE 43.

Though the AMG EQE 43 is a lesser model, it retains the AMG EQE 53’s dual-motor setup. But the power and torque ratings are down. The AMG EQE 43 produces 469 hp and 858 Nm, 208 hp, and 142 Nm less than the more powerful 53.

But the AMG EQE 43 is no slowpoke though. It can hit 100 kph from a standstill in just 4.2 seconds. The top speed is 210 kph, less than the EQE 53, and even lesser than its petrol-powered siblings. It still uses an all-wheel-drive system to deliver the power but a slightly detuned unit, the 4Matic. Note the lack of a “+” at the end of its name. The 53 gets the more potent AWD system.

Another system that the EQE 43 lacks is the Dynamic Plus package that adds a Boost function in the higher model. Helping its handling, rear-wheel steering is standard in this model as well. To improve the ride and handling even further, you can add in the air suspension from the EQS at an additional cost. Another optional extra is the ceramic brakes and 21-inch wheels.

While the bigger Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 goes on sale internationally, the EQE 43 is a Europe-only vehicle, at least for now.
