Land Rover supports 2nd Desert Palm Nations Cup

Land Rover, manufacturer of the world’s finest all terrain vehicles, once again extended its support to the annual Desert Palm Nations Cup that was held recently, hosting VIP guests at what has become an essential event for polo fans from across the UAE.

This year saw four international teams from the UAE, Nigeria, the USA, and Pakistan compete for the much coveted Desert Palm Trophy, which was eventually won by the Land Rover-sponsored UAE team.

The event is the brainchild of ex-polo player Pete McCormack who is driven by the desire to highlight and celebrate Dubai’s achievements in the sport of polo.

The Land Rover-sponsored UAE team emerged victorious after defeating the USA 8-6 in the final. Third place went to Pakistan who defeated Nigeria 9-2.

Commenting on the event, Robin Colgan, Managing Director Jaguar Land Rover, Middle East and North Africa said, “The inaugural event in 2009 was a huge success; and we are delighted to have been associated with the UAE team who went on to win the tournament yet again this year. This partnership further reiterates our commitment to supporting this historic and regal sport. ”

In addition to the main event, Land Rover offered exclusive polo lessons for selected guests, providing them with an introduction to the sport and essential tips on how to play. Skills such as riding a polo pony, griping the polo mallet, hitting the ball, the importance of safety and teamwork were highlighted during the informal training session.

Land Rover has been supporting polo for many years on a global level and has worked with world’s number one player, Adolfo Cambiaso for over five years in both the UAE and the UK.
