Mercedes-AMG EQS dials up the electric sedan to 751 hp

Back when the Mercedes-Benz EQS debuted, people were left in awe, thanks to its revolutionary design. They then followed it up with the smaller EQE. The boffins at AMG, known for their diet of petrol and fire-breathing horsepower, have laid their hands on the all-electric EQS, to produce the first AMG branded EQ model, the 2022 Mercedes-AMG EQS.

The AMG treatment on the EQS electric sedan has dialed up the horsepower output to 751 hp, way higher than the 516 hp churned out by the current top dog, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC. The torque output gets a hike too, at 1,020 Nm. All this is possible as AMG uses special motors for their electric creation.

These outputs can be achieved only in “Race Start” mode, thanks to a Boost function bundled with the standard AMG Dynamic Plus Package. In its standard guise, the AMG EQS makes 649 hp and 949 Nm. With all its electric power, the Mercedes-AMG EQS can hit 100 kph from a standstill in just over 3.5 seconds. No info on the range is released. The regular EQS can run up to 770 kms on a single charge, as per the highly optimistic WLTP cycle.

The motors are not the only area where the AMG influence can be found. The wheel carriers, control arms, motor mountings, subframe, and rear axle beam are all different from the standard EQS. Rear-wheel steering is a standard feature, so is the special AMG all-wheel-drive. Five different drive modes are also available – Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, and Individual.

An AMG Sound Experience feature brings in some acoustic AMG character to this otherwise silent EV. The users can toggle between three modes – Balanced, Sport, and Powerful.

Inside the AMG EQS, the Hyperscreen is a standard fitment. This of course comes with AMG-specific screens. Other AMG touches inside the cabin include a special flat-bottom steering wheel, AMG seats, red-stitching on dashboard and door pads, AMG Sports pedals, AMG floor mats, AMG door sill branding, and more. The exterior updates include special AMG alloy-wheel design choices, measuring 21- or 22-inches. The front grill gets a different design too, with vertical slats and everything.
