2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE shows up as EQS’ younger sibling

Mercedes-Benz EQS was the brand’s first venture into the fully-electric sedan market otherwise dominated by Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan. The EQS debuted a new sedan design language and now, this has spawned a smaller sibling for itself. Here is Mercedes-Benz EQE, trying to mimic the hierarchy that exists between the regular E-Class and S-Class.

The design of the EQE is not worlds apart from the EQS. In fact, if it was not for the smaller size, you may have to strain your eyes to tell them apart.

The differences between the two include the grill of the EQE drops further down into the front bumper while the headlamps have become sharper with a different LED design. The bumper has also been given a slight makeover. Rounding off the package are different wheel designs, in 19- and 20-inch Aero options.

The most significant aspect of the EQS’ design was its drag coefficient. The large sedan boasted a drag coefficient of 0.20, making it the most aerodynamic car in the world. The smaller EQE now shares the crown, with the same drag coefficient.

The interior of the Mercedes-Benz EQE gets the Hyperscreen setup from the EQS as an option. This will add in a massive 17.7-inch central touchscreen with two 12.3-inch screens on either side, acting as a DIS and a passenger screen, all placed under a continuous piece of 56.0-inch curved glass. As standard in the base model, the screens are a 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 12.2 inch DIS.

Powering the EQE, in its EQE 350 trim, is an electric motor paired with a 90.6-kWh battery pack. This is good for 288 hp and 530 Nm of torque. This electric power goes to the rear wheels as standard but if you wave some more money on Mercedes-Benz’s face, you can add in the 4Matic all-wheel-drive as well.

The range of the Mercedes-Benz EQE is quoted at 660 kms, under the generous setting by the European WLTP cycle. The real-world mileage will drop a chunk from this certified figure. But with the DC fast charging, the EQE can pump in enough juice to go from 10 to 80 percent in just 31 minutes.

The EQE shares optional rear-wheel steering with the larger EQS. Also in the options list is the Airmatic air suspension with an adaptive damping system. This allows customers to manually lift the suspension by an inch to avoid scratching the belly of the EQE on speed breakers.

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE 350 is another addition to the rapidly growing Mercedes-Benz EQ range. The production for this sedan will start from the middle of next year, closer to which, we will have the price and other details.
