Lamborghini Countach comes back from the dead with a V12

Keeping a secret in this time and age is an arduous task. But Lamborghini did it with the revival of the Lamborghini Countach. Only a surprise teaser dropped just days ago gave us the first glimpse into the reincarnation of the legendary supercar. All 1980s kids can rejoice, it is finally here — the new Lamborghini Countach.

For the few days Lamborghini let the discussions loose, the possibility of Countach not having a V12 were doing rounds. Some were petrified at the possibility of the Countach being an EV like what some other legendary marques turned into. Keep your fears folded aside, this new Countach does sport a V12. But there is a catch.

The new Lamborghini Countach has the 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine which, on its own, produces 769 hp. But, this is paired with a 34 hp electric motor hooked up to “supercapacitor” tech by Lambo. This combination may ring some bells — you have seen this is in the Lamborghini Sián FKP 37, but with more power. In the Countach, the power drops a little bit but nothing to hamper its progress.

The new Lamborghini Countach can power from 0 to 100 kph in less than 3.0 seconds while 200 can be touched in 8.6 seconds. Thanks to the trusted V12 and a four-wheel-drive system, the Countach can now go as fast as it looks.

Looks, oh boy, what can I say. The original Countach was the de facto choice of then-toddler, now-millennial gang as a bedroom wall poster. Yes, it is a cliché to say so, but the new Countach is not here to break that tradition. It looks killer. The lines are flatter and cleaner to mimic the legend. The wedge shape is retained at the front but no pop-up headlights due to the modern-age pedestrian-safety norms.

The massive air vents on the side mimic the large NACA ducts of the old Countach. But you will not find the eccentric number of vents, flaps, and ducts the original model had. This is a cleaner design, which can be a let-down to some. But there are scissor doors though. If there were not, it would not have been a proper Countach.

The rear end has a lot to thank the Sián for. The interior is also from the Sián, but with special badges and some small differences. To finish the exterior Lambo offers 30 different shades of paint, grouped into two — Heritage colours and Contemporary colours.

Yes, it may not be exactly what many of us envisioned a Lamborghini Countach reboot to be. Instead of a ground-up supercar, the new Countach is basically a re-skinned Aventador with some bits from the Sián.

But, Lamborghini found the right balance between reviving a nostalgic model and not breaking their bank developing a completely new vehicle that is not going to sell in large numbers. Only 112 will ever be built acting as one of the swansongs to the glorious V12 it flaunts. For us enthusiasts, it is good to know that it exists so that we can relive our childhood while we clear out space on the wall for a new poster.
