2022 BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe gets snorter grille

The BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe conveniently occupies a stylish niche between more practical BMW 3-Series and 5-Series sedans. For the new year, the 2022 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe freshens up. It picks up more features, better dynamics, and fortunately or unfortunately, the controversial large kidney grill from the M4 and M3.

Online forums were set on fire when BMW showed off the large kidney grill on the M3 and M4 last year. While BMW is quietly hoping that most people will get used to it, the 2022 4-Series Gran Coupe should help their cause. With the new grill comes an updated bumper, adaptive LED headlights and 18-inch wheels as standard or 19-inchers as an option. The higher M440i trim gets the 19-inch wheels as standard fitment.

The 2022 BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe grows over the outgoing model. It adds 150 mm to its length, 25 mm to its width, and 53 mm to its height. An additional 45.7 mm wheelbase should help the 4-door coupe release more passenger space inside. The front and rear tracks are also widened to give it a better stance. The interior is nearly identical to the BMW 4-Series 2-door coupe.

The entry to the 2022 4-Series Gran Coupe range is opened with the 430i, packing a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. This mill is good for 255 hp as well as 400 Nm of torque.

Stepping up the game is an M440i trim, powered by a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. This combination whips out 382 hp and 499 Nm. This version can rush from 0 to 100 kph in just over 4.6 seconds.

Both trims get the eight-speed automatic transmission while the M440i sports the xDrive all-wheel-drive system. It also gets M-specific features like M Sport differential and M Sport brakes.

The 2022 BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe forms a stylish escape from regular sedans in that segment, although it pushes the boundaries of good taste.
