2022 Genesis G70 finally gets signature look

Hyundai’s luxury brand Genesis has been struggling to forge an identity of their own, not helped by the fact that Hyundai and Kia’s own cheaper vehicles were pushing design boundaries. But unique new design cues that debuted in the lukewarm Genesis G90 are starting to trickle down to the smaller models, adding further refinement along the way. The first to get them was the Genesis G80. They have now officially revealed the facelifted 2022 Genesis G70 which seems to have finally hit the sweet spot.

The G70’s design is clearly inspired by its bigger brother and it is in no way a bad thing. The front looks handsome, even with that large chrome “crest” grill, thanks to the two-tier headlights, named Quad lamps by Genesis. The well-balanced side profile is accentuated by the two thick lines that run the length of the car. New wheel designs add to the appeal. At the rear, the raked windscreen flows into a boot lid that curves at the rear, mimicking a lip spoiler. The tail lamps at the rear reflect the same design language as the headlights.

Step inside, and the 2022 Genesis G70 greets you with the same driver-oriented layout which has not changed as much as the exterior. Yet, it looks plush and fits well into a segment that is brimming with German and American vehicles. The 2022 G70 gets a new 10.25-inch infotainment system with a new exclusive Genesis UI with provisions for Over the Air updates, Apple CarPlay and Valet mode. Wireless charging now accommodates even bigger smartphones.

Since this is essentially a major facelift, the cabin dimensions are retained, which means rear legroom will continue to be cramped compared to its rivals.

The engines offered with the old model are apparently getting ditched, as reports suggest at least some markets will get a new 2.5-litre and a larger 3.5-litre, both turbo petrol motors. We will know more closer to a GCC launch sometime next year.
