Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet makes 2010 debut
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet finally joins the redesigned E-Class line-up for next year. The open-top two-door model, which goes on sale in the first quarter of 2010 in the GCC, will be introduced as a 2010 or a 2011 model, depending on the market.
Engine choices are pretty much the same as those offered in the E-Class Coupe, with models such as the E 350 and the E 500, with more on the way later, but no AMG variants.
The soft top can be opened and closed fully automatically within 20 seconds, even when driving at speeds of up to 40 kph. If the roof is up, luggage boot capacity is increased by 90 litres to 390 litres. A rear-seat “through-loading” feature is included as standard for the new Cabriolet, as is “EASY-ENTRY,” a manually operated entry and exit aid for the rear passengers.
A new invention is the “AIRCAP” automatic draught-stop, which can be activated at the push of a button, greatly reducing turbulence in the interior of the new Mercedes E-Class Cabriolet. It consists of two components, namely the top windscreen frame that extends by around 60 mm with a net in between, and a regular wind-deflector between the rear seats. It can be activated at speeds of up to 160 kph and remains in use right up to the car’s top speed, and reduces the interior noise level with the roof down.
The soft top also has high-quality insulation for a supposedly noticeable reduction in the interior noise level compared to conventional fabric soft tops.
Safety highlights of the open-top two-door model include roll-over protection, the A-pillars reinforced by two additional tubes and the “plug-in” B-pillars. This new model is also the first Mercedes-Benz cabriolet to feature headbags. Further safety equipment for the E-Class Cabriolet includes “ATTENTION ASSIST” drowsiness detection, “PRE-SAFE” anticipatory occupant protection, the “Intelligent Light” system with turning function, the “Active Bonnet” to bounce off stupid pedestrians, and the “DISTRONIC PLUS” adaptive cruise control.

wow it’s the first time to see an AC on the seats of passengers… but I prefer not to have it.. because it will make me feel dizzy…
BJD
thats an AC vent under the front head rest? why would one need an AC for the back of his neck?

It’s an “airscarf,” optional now on the SL-Class. I don’t know the point of it.

AIR SCARF
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=AIR%20SCARF
When a person passes gas while wearing a longer jacket that covers the buttox. This causes the hot gas to rise inside the jacket and escape around the neck and face area like an invisible scarf of flatulence.
Man, ever since I had tacos for lunch I’ve been sporting this air scarf.
I’ve been air scarfing all day! I can’t stand it anymore!
Jamen: I much prefer the warmth of an air scarf over a regular scarf anyday, much cozier.
Chad: I definitely agree, certainly much more personal.

When Mercedes launched the second generation of Mercedes SLK convertible, they introduced a new and clever way to warm up passengers heads as they get cold by the air turbulence when the top is down! They simply put extra air condition vents in the headrests! The AirScarf is also used in the new SL-Class. But both SL and SLK are two-seater cars, so for the 2010 Mercedes Benz E-class Cabriolet which is a four-seater drop-top, the engineers have come up with a new system called the AirCap.
The AirCap is way more complicated than the AirScarf, Mercedes has spent four years developing and testing it, but it delivers amazing results. The main feature of this sophisticated system is a air diverter blade which rises form the top of the windshield when the roof is folded down. When this blade is up it deflects the air over the whole cockpit, so it stays nice and warm! Not only the AirCap reduces the chill in the cabin, it is also said to reduce the noise level significantly.

thnx for pic.

Very, very stylish car, inside and out. It’s a typical teutonic car. Not too simple to be deemed “boring” and not too over-the-top to be called “pretentious”.
This E-class convertible, as well as the sedan, coupe, and wagon, are all very handsome looking vehicles. Nice drive and features as well…..LOVE YOU MERC!!? 🙂
AbdelAziz
To be honest 4 year for just this technology!! is nonsense.. Plus, it doesn’t work in hot countries like UAE for example… so it’s waste of money to have this option here… but Thanks for the information 🙂

glad to help BJD

Overpriced and overstated. Not worth the money especially when you have a dealer (Gargash) with unqualified untrustworthy unreliable service centers. Overall, Mercedes is losing its appeal very fast, that’s just my opinion! 😉

I have a hardtop E class which mercedes say is silent, when I reported a air noise I was given the following reply “MBAuP have carried out testing of several E class coupe under various conditions and speeds where it was noted that a wind turbulence type of noise was evident where the front and rear side windows meet.
This buffeting noise can be reproduced on both driver and passenger sides of the vehicle and may vary in amplitude due to wind direction and strength.
We are of the opinion that due to the design of the door mirror assembly, glass thickness and “B” pillarless design, a certain level of wind turbulence will be experienced in-line with the characteristics of this model type and hence we are satisfied no vehicle defect exists”.
After testing several vehicles in NZ and also demonstrating to yourself that other vehicles portray the same characteristic, we also consider your vehicle as “series standard”.
