Ford offers Tremor Off-Road package for Super Duty trucks

With numerous hatchbacks on stilts claiming to be SUVs nowadays, proper off-roading artillery is hard to come by. Ford’s bigger F-Series trucks can now be had with a Tremor Off-road package. This package is for the Ford Super Duty series of trucks, arming them with greater towing capacity and payload as well. It seems poised to put the Ram 2500 Power Wagon back in its place, low in the totem pole of trucks.

The updates that come with the Tremor Off-road package include a set of massive 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac off-road tyres. The front end has been lifted by 50 mm and with a shorter air dam, the ground clearance is now a hefty 270 mm. The water-wading capacity is also top-notch, at 839 mm. The approach and departure angles are higher, at 31.65 degrees and 24.51 degrees respectively.

Progressive rate springs and 1.7-inch piston twin-tube dampers are fitted to control body motion while off-roading. The rear differential can be locked electronically with the shift-on-the-fly feature while the front axle gets a Dana limited-slip front differential. More off-road props are available with the Tremor package including off-road running boards, extended axle vent tubes, and beefier skid plates.

The hardware is not the only area that has received changes. The Tremor package brings more changes under the skin including different driving modes with Normal, Tow/Haul, Eco, Slippery, and Deep Snow/Sand options. There is a rock-crawl mode as well, which is unique to this package. The package also adds the Trail Control feature from the F-150 and Raptor trucks. It is essentially cruise control for the off-road conditions, albeit at a lower speed.

The Tremor off-road package is available for the XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum F-250 and F-350 Super Duty with the 7.3-litre petrol V8 or 6.7-litre Diesel engines. The package will be launched by the end of 2019 when the 2020 Ford Duper Duty trucks get unveiled. It is unclear if this will be offered in the UAE and GCC any time soon.
