Mazda slots new CX-30 between CX-3 and CX-5
A while ago, Mazda had released a teaser image of a new compact crossover which everybody speculated to be a new generation of the CX-3. But to everybody’s surprise, Mazda uncovered a completely new global crossover named Mazda CX-30 to sit between the CX-3 and CX-5 in their lineup.
The Mazda CX-30 adopts the brand’s Kodo design language but takes a conservative approach towards it. The CX-30 rides on Mazda’s Skyactiv Vehicle architecture which also underpins the new Mazda 3.
Powering the Mazda CX-30 will be a range of petrol and diesel engines the details of which are not disclosed. The latest Skyactiv-X engine from Mazda that claims to combine the advantages of petrol and diesel engines is also offered but the outputs are not disclosed. The petrol units in the lineup will come with “Mazda M” mild hybrid technology that improves efficiency. All the engines will come mated to a six-speed automatic or a six-speed manual.
The i-Activ AWD system splits the power between all the front and rear wheels. Mazda claims that the AWD system does not affect the fuel efficiency figures.
It is unclear if the CX-30 will be offered in the UAE and GCC, as it is bound to steal their own CX-3 and CX-5 sales.
