2020 Range Rover Evoque debuts with Velar-inspired design

The 2020 Range Rover Evoque debuts as the SUV’s second generation, looking much like the “Victoria Beckham-designed” first generation, but now carrying Velar inspired design and mild-hybrid technology.

The looks of the 2020 Range Rover Evoque is an adaptation of what we saw in the Velar, but warped for the compact dimensions. The Evoque has not grown in size, but with the usage of Land Rover’s new mixed-metal Premium Transverse Architecture, the new Evoque now offers more space inside for the passengers.

Inside, the Velar vibes persist. There is an optional dual-screen layout for the centre console. A fully digital instrument console, 16-way seat controls and cabin air ionisation pamper the occupants. It also gets Land Rover’s ClearSight Ground View system which shows the driver what is ahead and under the vehicle, to avoid wheel damage rather than anything like serious offroading, as per their marketing. This system makes use of cameras to display the visuals in the infotainment screen display.

The new platform facilitates the use of electrification technology and as a result, the 2020 Evoque is the first hybrid Evoque. The 296 hp mild hybrid system collects the energy lost during deceleration and stores it in an underfloor battery pack. This energy is then used to help the petrol engine during acceleration. This powertrain when coupled with the 9-speed ZF automatic makes the drivetrain more refined and quieter than a conventional IC engine. Speaking of that, the 2020 Range Rover Evoque will also offer a traditional 246 hp turbo four-cylinder petrol engine, with more units to follow. All Evoques come with standard all-wheel-drive and LR’s Terrain Response System with six driving modes — General, Eco, Sand, Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud-Ruts, and Auto.

Expect the new model to debut in the UAE and GCC before the summer of 2019.
