So we got a 2018 Genesis G70 3.3T

The Genesis G70 has been a long time coming, as no premium line-up is complete without a compact sports sedan. While the G90 hasn’t caused any waves, and the G80 is a remnant of the Hyundai-badged days, the G70 is the first proper product from the upstart brand that brings something interesting to the table. We were still sceptical about this car though, but we got a message from the General Manager of Genesis Middle East, Altar Yilmaz, to come check out his personal car, and later we got this cherry one for a longer test.

The G70 looks oddly unattractive in photos, with its cluttered face and derivative rear, but in person, it looks properly premium, and even got a few looks from passing drivers as well as a bit of respect. You won’t get that with a BMW 3-Series nowadays.

Inside, there is good effort put into upping the ambience in terms of materials and tech, although we did find some compromises in terms of space.

The G70 is said to share a rear-wheel-drive platform with the Kia Stinger, but the Genesis version is actually a smaller, nimbler car (and ours has optional all-wheel-drive) so it’s the better of the two when it comes to driving. More on that in the full review.

  1. looks good… more infinity..

  2. Kia Stinger is more sporty and this one is more premium sport. The Stinger is more practical with a liftback and bigger interior space but because the g70 is lighter it has better handling. Help me choose…stinger or G70

  3. Looks really nice. In comparison to the Kia Stinger this is more premium and because it is lighter it should handle better. However the Kia stinger is more practical with that massive liftback boot and more spacious interior.

  4. I disagree on few points. I’ve seen this car in metal and styling is very anonymous. As if they borrowed different cues from different manufacturer and stuck on. That interior red stitch is too red and looks like a Satwa upholstery. Other than that, I can’t comment on the drive since I haven’t driven one.

But if this is priced close to say an Infiniti Q50, All I can say is best of luck!

  5. The rear lights seem to be taken from Elantra.

  6. Badge from Bentley
