2019 Ford Focus gets rebuilt from ground up
The popular Ford Focus wears a completely new suit for 2019. The 2019 Focus arrives with a completely new design, new set of engines, and new underpinnings.
The 2019 Ford Focus is built on Ford’s new C2 platform that claims to improve fuel efficiency, safety, and performance. Underneath the body, the new Focus uses ideas from the old Focus RS like the extruded foam in the rear underbody cavity. The wheelbase has grown by two inches which translates to better space in the interior. The 2019 Focus also has cut 88 kg from its weight.
The new looks of the 2019 Focus is a good improvement over the outgoing version, even if a bit derivative in profile and rear styling. Everything is new on the body. The improvements in design have reflected in the aerodynamics of the car. The drag coefficient has dropped to 0.250 for the sedan and 0.273 for the hatchback.
Inside, the 2019 Ford Focus gets an array of goodies that include a heads-up display, improved active park assist, wireless charging and an 8-inch touchscreen system that uses Ford’s Sync 3 system to run Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. A 675 watt Bang and Olufsen 10-speaker stereo system pairs up with the latter.
On the safety front, there is nothing to run short of. There is adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert, rearview camera, post-crash braking assist, wrong way alert, and evasive steering assist. An adaptive front lighting system pre-adjusts the beam before reaching a corner. There is a forward-facing camera to read and monitor lane markings up to 65 meters ahead of the car.
To power the 2019 Ford Focus, there are two petrol engines that come in different states of tune. There is a 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine that produces 84, 99 and 123 hp in different tuning configurations. A bigger 1.5-litre EcoBoost churns out 148 hp or 180 hp. A six-speed manual and an eight-speed automatic are available. There are two EcoBlue diesel units as well, displacing 1.5 and 2.0-litres.
The 2019 Ford Focus arrives on European shores in sedan, hatchback and wagon styles, as well as in ST Line, Focus Active Crossover and top-of-the-line Vignale trims for the hatchback. The hotter ST and RS versions are yet to be revealed.
Hopefully the new Focus will reach UAE and GCC shores. In these times of slow sales and the rise of crossovers, dealers have actually cancelled models such as the Ford Fiesta, the Nissan Tiida and the Chevrolet Cruze for our market, so it remains to be seen if the new Focus makes it here.
