2018 Range Rover updated with hybrid model to follow
Right after revealing the hybrid Range Rover Sport P400e as well as the refreshed 2018 range of the Sport, Land Rover took the covers off its bigger brother, the Range Rover. The updates come in the form of a slightly refreshed design, more features and more power for the SV Autobiography Dynamic model. But the silver lining is not any of these. A P400e Plug-in Hybrid variant of the big Rangie is on the cards too.
The visual updates on the 2018 model are nothing to write home about. There is a revised grille, new LED headlamps, and a front bumper with widened vent blades. The side accents are also treated in a subtle fashion. At the rear, the bumper gets some tweaks along with the exhaust tips.
The interior of the 2018 Range Rover is home to more noticeable updates. The front seats are now wider and deeper. The top-end models also offer 24-way adjustment for the front seats along with heating, cooling, and massaging functions that can be controlled via a smartphone app. Seat controls are moved to the door panels. A new 12-inch high-res driver information display gets added to the package along with a heads-up display. The InControl Touch Pro Duo infotainment system sports two 10-inch touch screens mounted on the center console. There are 17 connection points for USB, HDMI, and 12-Volt plugs. There is a rear center console that can be deployed on demand for the rear passenger. A 4G Wi-Fi hotspot facility allows eight devices to get connected to the system, at once.
The headline though is reserved for the upcoming P400e Plug-in Hybrid model. It pairs a 2.0-litre petrol engine with an electric motor, the combo hooked up to a four-wheel drive system. The combined horsepower output is 398 hp, which is enough to propel the massive SUV from 0-100 kph in just over 6.5 seconds. The P400e can also travel 50 kilometers solely on electric juice. On the bottom line, the power output from 5.0-litre V8 of the 2018 Range Rover Autobiography Dynamic model is boosted to 557 hp.
The 2018 Range Rover will arrive at dealers by the end of this year. Those who want the hybrid will have to wait as it will arrive in late-2018 as a 2019 model.
