Manufacturer recalls for September 2017

In the last month, the number of recalls initiated by car companies has decreased a bit. Here is the list of cars recalled in the month of September.

Porsche has recalled almost all Cayenne SUVs that produced during 2003 through 2006. The fuel pump filter is found to develop cracks in the flange of the filter over a period of time. Porsche says that this may cause a “very small quantity” of fuel to leak out, which can form a hazard. The fix will be done in less than an hour and a half. The dealers will replace the flange of the fuel filter free of charge. This recall will affect 55,214 Cayenne SUVs in the US. Porsche hasn’t mentioned anything about the Cayennes in other parts of the world though.

NHTSA is investigating the seat belts in the Polaris Slingshot three-wheeler following a crash in which a man from Michigan was killed in 2016. During the crash, the seat belt was found to have released on impact. The Polaris driver was wearing a helmet and the seat belts when his Slingshot veered into an oncoming vehicle. The family of the deceased filed a complaint with the NHTSA as they found that the seat belt retractor exploded on impact which had allowed the belt to release.  Polaris extended their condolences to the rider’s family and promised that they will completely cooperate with NHTSA’s investigation. NHTSA’s investigation is currently probing 4800 2015 Polaris Slingshot models which are equipped with seat belt retractors made by Key Safety Systems Inc of Michigan.

Another seat belt issue has forced Chrysler to recall about 50,000 Pacifica minivans. The NHTSA says that a malfunctioning center seat belt buckle in the second row might cause the left outboard seat belt to become unlatched. Only the vehicle with the eight-passenger configuration will be affected and this accounts to 47,297 of the 2017 and 2018 models in the US and 1908 vehicles in Canada. FCA will install a shorter center seat belt buckle for free. The notification for the same will be sent soon. The Pacifica will go on sale in the GCC next year.

Approximately 58,000 2015-16 model Mazda 6 cars were recalled due to potential deactivation of the passenger airbag. The debris from the welding done to manufacture the front seat frame may damage the occupant classification system wiring, which can disable the power steering assist and the passenger airbag. Mazda will add a protective pad on the seat frame for free.
