2018 BMW M5 revealed with 600 hp, all-wheel-drive

BMW officially revealed the all-new M5. On the outside, compared to the standard 5-Series, it gets larger front grilles, a more aggressive rear bumper with a diffuser and vents in the fenders, while the inside gets sports seats, M5 logos and M buttons on the steering wheel to choose custom driving modes.

Under the hood, it gets the same 4.4-litre turbocharged V8 which now produces 600 hp and 750 Nm of torque, which is a 40 hp and 72 Nm increase over the previous model. Power is delivered through an 8-speed automatic to an all-wheel-drive system. The AWD system, the first on an M5, can function purely on rear-wheel drive mode. BMW claims the stability control comes on late since the AWD system provides enough traction and control by default. It also helps acceleration times, hitting from 0-100 kph in 3.4 seconds.

To improve handling characteristics, BMW has revamped the double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension, and added firmer anti-roll bars and chassis bracing. The car sits on 19-inch alloy wheels, wrapped with 275 mm tyres in the front and 285 mm tyres at the back. Carbon ceramic brakes are available as an option.

To reduce weight, the front hood and fenders are made of aluminium, while the roof is made of carbon-fibre. The dynamic exhaust system is said to be 5 kg lighter than the standard 5-Series, while opting for the ceramic brakes saves you 11 kg.

Expect the 2018 BMW M5 to come to the UAE, Saudi Arabia and other GCC countries sometime next year.
