2018 Suzuki Swift Sport shown off ahead of Frankfurt debut

To spice up the 2018 Suzuki Swift hatchback range which was launched in January, Suzuki is preparing to launch the turbocharged Swift Sport at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The Swift Sport will have aggressively sculpted bumpers up front. The alloy wheels will also be updated. The black front skirts gel well with the other blacked out design elements like the grille, pillars and side skirts. The Swift Sport will retain the standard Swift’s floating roof.

According to Autocar reports, the new Swift Sport will ditch the naturally-aspirated 1.6-litre engine for a turbocharged 1.4-litre 4-cylinder Boosterjet engine that outputs 140 hp and 220 Nm. This marks an increase of just 4 hp over the old model but the new Swift Sport has other tricks up its sleeve to utilize this power better. Built on Suzuki’s new platform, the Swift will come with lesser weight. The curb weight of the 2018 Swift is believed to stay under 1000 kgs, though no official confirmation was received on this. For a reference, the bigger Baleno hatchback built on the same platform weighs less than a ton.

More details on the Swift Sport will be available when it makes its public debut in September at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.
