2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS unveiled as the most powerful 911 ever

Porsche has taken the wraps off the most powerful road-going 911 ever produced. Called the GT2 RS, it slips in as a halo model to the iconic sports car range which sold more than a million units since its inception 55 years ago.

Visually, the Porsche GT2 RS gets a distinctly aggressive appearance. The aesthetics have been heavily worked on by adding carbon scoops in the hips, gaping exhaust tunnels in the rear bumper, square-jawed front intakes, and exaggerated front wheel arch extractors. The optional Weissach weight-saving package also adds magnesium wheels, carbon suspension components and a carbon roof. Adding up all these, the 911 GT2 RS weighs just 1470 kg.

The twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre flat-six engine is tweaked fiercely to dish out 690 hp and 748 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to Porsche’s dual-clutch PDK automatic gearbox which transfers the power to the rear wheels. This powers the car from 0 to 100 kph in 2.8 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 340 kph. Porsche claims that the 911 GT2 RS will do the 0-200 kph run in under 9 seconds. A set of ceramic brakes standard. The GT2 RS will also feature the four-wheel steering system from the 911 Turbo.

The interior is lined with Alcantara, leather and carbon fibre. The front seats are racing buckets while the rear seats have been removed. As it’s a 911 RS, the rear seats are replaced by a roll cage.

The 911 GT2 RS will join the 911 lineup as a powerful alternative to the GT3 and GT3 RS models. According to Autobild magazine, all 1000 of them made have been sold already. The 911 GT2 RS costs the equivalent of Dhs 1 million, and the optional Weissach package will add another Dhs 100,000 to the price (before dealer mark-ups). It is unknown how many are earmarked for the GCC.
