Nick Alexander Woodie Collection auction
The distinguished Nick Alexander Woodie Collection was auctioned off this August, at the 2009 Monterey classic car event in the United States, achieving in excess of $7 million in total sales. It is a good opportunity to witness the popular wood-panel trim sported by various cars are the time.
The four-hour auction attracted spirited bidding as 51 magnificent pre-WW2 and post-war Ford & Mercury wood-bodied station wagons crossed the block before a packed house.
The top-seller of the night was a rare 1946 Mercury Sportsman Convertible which brought an impressive $368,500. Other highlights included a 1948 Ford Super Deluxe Sportsman Convertible for $275,000, and an all-wheel-drive 1946 Ford Super Deluxe Station Wagon for $247,500.
These are the last glimpses of a time when big cars were the American dream, and woody wagons were actually considered cool.
