2018 Honda Civic Type-R finally debuts in production form

Of all the hot hatches that came from Japan, the Honda Civic Type-R has been the most successful in carving a cult status for itself. After four generations of ground-breaking models, there is now a new one. Honda is showcasing the road-ready version of their 2017 Civic Type-R at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.

The 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine has been tuned to produce 306 hp and 400 Nm, directed to the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox with active rev matching. The horsepower figures mentioned are for the U.S. version. Honda revealed that the cars meant for many other markets will have 315 hp. The front axle is fitted with a limited slip differential that keeps understeer in check. The suspension at the front is a dual-axis setup and at the back it gets multi-link suspension, with adaptive dampers.

The look of the 2018 Civic Type-R is as bonkers as the aggressive prototype. The front and rear lights are LED units. The Type-R will be available in only the fully loaded Touring spec. Thus it comes with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Three driving modes named Comfort, Sport and +R are available. Switching between these modes will adjust the steering, damping, throttle response and transmission rev matching to suit the driving style.

The 2018 Honda Civic Type-R is currently in the limelight at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. Sales will commence soon. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, and there are no signs that it will come to the UAE or GCC after disastrous sales of the last-gen one. If it did come here, it’ll likely cost at least Dhs 150,000.
