Alfa Romeo secretly develops 350 hp Giulia Veloce
One of Alfa Romeo’s latest creations, the Giulia sedan, has been the talk of the town as the Giulia Quadrifoglio became the fastest sedan to lap the Nurburgring, beating Porsche’s Panamera Turbo a year ago. The 7:32-minute run achieved by the hot Alfa directed the automotive world’s attention towards the Giulia range. People soon found out that there exists a huge gap between the 276 hp model (known as Veloce in Europe and Super in America) and the 505 hp Quadrifoglio. Rumours now suggest that Alfa is working on a 350 hp Giulia to fill this gap up.
Squadra Tuning, a company that specialises in Alfas posted a screenshot of an entry on the Dutch market FCA website on Facebook which indicates the arrival of a more powerful version of the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged GME 14 engine. As the screenshot show an entry for the GME 14 engine (denoted by CC 2.0) with two horsepower ratings PK 280 and PK 350 (PK is the Dutch symbol for metric horsepower), this is more than clear evidence for the arrival of a faster Veloce/Super.
There is more evidence to prove the arrival of this fast Alfa. AutoEvolution released a document that revealed that a faster Giulia Veloce will be sold in the USA and that will have 350 hp, an 8-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive. The aesthetics of the new car is not believed to differ a lot from the current 276 hp Veloce, which is the one pictured here. When the 350 hp Veloce arrives, it will serve as an “in-between” model that will lock horns with the Germans — the Mercedes-AMG C43, BMW 340i and the Audi S4. The supercharged Jaguar XE will also be on its radar.
