Jaguar I-Pace concept previews electric ambitions

With distant hopes of sinking its claw right into the Tesla Model X, Jaguar revealed an all-electric SUV concept based on its latest offering, the F-Pace. The new electric concept SUV will be called the I-Pace. The I-Pace marks the Indian-owned British carmaker’s move to compete in the green-car category, considering they don’t even have hybrids yet.

The I-Pace generally looks like an awkwardly-profiled F-Pace. The design is apparently partly inspired by the C-X75 hybrid concept, although that’s quite a stretch.

The I-Pace is powered exclusively by two electric motors along with a 90 kWh battery pack. The battery pack takes two hours to charge and claims a range of 352 km. The output of this combination is 400 hp and 700 Nm of torque. This electric powertrain propels the car from 0 to 100 kph in just a smidge more than 4 seconds. The battery pack is liquid-cooled and is mounted low to the floor.

The Jaguar I-Pace is obviously aimed squarely at the Tesla Model X, but the maximum range and the acceleration figures are not as impressive as that of Elon Musk’s trend-setting electric cars. We will have to wait till 2018 to know what Jaguar’s final plans are. That’s when they aim to put the I-Pace into production.

  1. Amazing proposition from Jaguar, especially for their first e-car. Now if they release it in the UAE…..
