Production-spec 2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 revealed
In 2014’s Los Angeles Auto Show, Chevrolet flaunted a concept ZR2 version of their Colorado pickup. And now, after 2 years, they have revealed the production version of the Colorado ZR2. The ZR2 is claimed to be a pickup that has the grunt and the guts to blast down an off-the-grid track.
The production version looks pretty much identical to the concept that they showed off in 2014. The front bumper has black cladding and an aluminium skid plate designed to give it a better approach angle. The bed-mounted spare tyre that you see on the show truck will be offered as an option. The new cast-iron control arms have widened the truck by about 90mm while the reworked suspension adds about 50mm to the ride height.
The Colorado ZR2 also has the Multimatic DSSV shocks fitted. DSSV stands for Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve and these are the same sort of suspension setup that we can see if we peel away the bodywork from a track-ready Camaro Z/28. This makes the Colorado ZR2 the first production off-road vehicle to make use of this technology. This plainly means that the Colorado will soften up to gobble all the boulders when it goes off-road but will also stiffen up once the surface smoothens out.
There are two engine choices, just like the normal Colorado. The 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine produces 308 hp and 373 Nm, while the 2.8-litre turbodiesel generates 181 hp and 500 Nm of torque. An 8-speed auto transmission will do duty with both the engines.
More details regarding the Colorado ZR2 later, although it remains to be seen if it is offered in the UAE and GCC.
