Toyota builds a 2000 hp Land Cruiser

Toyota’s motorsports division TRD has showcased one monster of a Land Cruiser at the Special Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas which theoretically hopes to knock the Bentley Bentayga off its roost as the fastest SUV in the world.

The heavily-modified Toyota Land Cruiser uses the same 5.7-litre V8 available in the top-spec models for propulsion but a pair of huge Garrett turbochargers help it produce a stratospheric 2000 hp. That’s about 500 hp more than the Bugatti Chiron. To deal with all this power, this Land Cruiser is lowered and has been given a beefier set of tyres as well as a few aero upgrades. Toyota has stripped off all the luxury amenities to save weight.

The result of all this? This Land Cruiser now boasts a top speed of 354 kph which can easily trump the Bentayga by 53 kph. However, real world tests have gotten this SUV to do only 257 kph as of now, but Toyota hopes to break the land speed record for an SUV after a bit more tweaking and tuning.

This mega-SUV is a part of Toyota’s SEMA lineup, some of which you can see in our coverage from the show floor.

  1. So, a REAL 4×4, without off-road capacities? What a superficial world.

  2. the incarnation of “pointless”…

    🙂

  3. Toyota has lost it’s image by doing silly things like this monkey. what a waste of time, effort, and money.

  4. I think its great, where would you get a sports car that seats 7 people and still drive fast. True maybe waste of money and effort , but they sure have the market here that would have some serious enthusiasts buying it.

  5. Mercedes-Benz GL63 is a 7 seater that can reach 100 in 4.9 seconds and speeds over 250 km/h… All that without losing off-road abilities nor ride comfort.

That what car enthusiasts will look for not a lowered monkey.

  6. now thats a shABAB mobile folks !!!! tuuu tuuu tuuu ttttttttuuuuu
