List of manufacturer recalls for October 2016

Here is a list of all the recalls for the month of October, many of which are relevant to GCC-spec vehicles.

Porsche initiated a recall for 243 examples of the 2017 Macan, Macan S, Macan Turbo and Macan GTS models built between July 30 and 9 August 2016 for addressing an issue with the front anti-roll bar links. This issue might cause the connecting link bushes to move about. This induces rattling and may even stop the proper functioning of the front anti-roll bar resulting in over steer during enthusiastic driving. Porsche dealers will inspect the car and replace the front anti-roll bar links for free.

Ford has announced a recall of 8000 2015-2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 and GT350R for an improperly crimped tube in the engine oil cooler tube assembly. This can cause a leak which may even lead to engine failure if it loses a large amount of oil. A leak will also increase the risk of a fire hazard considerably. The Mustangs are not the only ones that are being recalled.

About 400,000 cars are being recalled with the list including 2010-2012 Ford Escapes and 2010-2011 Mercury Mariners both for the 3.0-litre flex-fuel V6 engine variants only. About 180 units of the 2017 Super Duty Chassis Cabs are also a part of the recall. In the Escape and Mariner the flange on the fuel delivery module might crack which can lead to a fuel leak. In the Super Duty, a fuel tank shield that could get detached acts as the reason for the recall. This might allow water and debris to open up a fuel drain valve. This can lead to a major fuel leak. All these vehicles will be inspected and repaired by the dealers for no cost.

Subaru is also recalling cars over a fire risk. 100,127 vehicles subjected to the recall include the 2007-2009 Subaru Legacy and Outback, 2008-2014 Impreza and 2009-2013 Forester. The 2.5-litre turbocharged four cylinder engine fitted into these vehicles has a faulty relay that can cause a failure of the secondary air injection pump. This will make the pump work continuously and later, it will melt due to overheating. This can initiate a fire. The relay of the affected vehicles will be replaced by the dealers at no charge.

A few 2011-2012 models of the Nissan Versa (Nissan Sunny in the Middle East) have been reported to fire their airbags when the doors are slammed hard. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has initiated an investigation into the case. If they deem a recall necessary, about 155,000 cars will be affected in the States. The GCC gets the Sunny from India, so it may not be affected.

Exactly 281,505 cars from the Volkswagen Group are being recalled to rectify fuel leaks caused by different reasons. The affected models include the Audi A3, A6, A7, Q5, and Q7, Volkswagen Golf, Golf SportWagen, and Golf GTI. 28,429 examples of the 2012-2013 Audi A6 and A7 are being recalled for a degrading fuel hose in the engine bay. Fuel caps that can develop a potential crack have forced 143,214 units of the 2009-2012 Audi Q5s and 2007-2012 Q7s to be called back home. Yet another reason for a fuel leak has initiated a recall of 110,042 units of the 2015-2016 Volkswagen Golf, Golf SportWagen, Golf GTi, Audi A3 sedan and cabriolet. In these cars, the fuel may leak from the evaporative emissions system. VW says that the parts aren’t available yet, as they have to accommodate three recalls at once but they have also promised to reach out to their customers as soon as possible.

The fourth-gen Toyota Prius is also being recalled because of faulty parking brakes. About 340,000 examples of the Prius are estimated to be affected by the problem. In these cars, the parking brake may become ineffective sometimes which might cause the vehicle to roll away if it is slotted to any gear other than park. Dealers will inspect your car and will rectify the problem for free. Toyota, after announcing the recall, issued a stop-sale order on the new Prius over this issue.

Parking brake woes don’t stop there. Honda is also facing problems with the parking brakes of their 2016 Civic coupes and sedans. 350,000 of these cars are being recalled right now. The electronic parking brake fitted to these vehicles is prevented from activation by the car’s stability control software when it is engaged right after turning off the ignition. A brake light may flash on the instrument panel for 15 seconds. If the car is not in parking gear, the disengaged brake might be unable to prevent the car from rolling away. Dealers will update the faulty software for free to remove the bug.

A total of 311,000 Jeep Wranglers which includes 2016 and 2017 model years are being recalled for tackling a glitch where the wiring disconnects from the impact sensors which may prevent the proper operation of airbags and pre-tensioners in certain type of crashes. Jeep says that none of the affected 2017 units were delivered to the customers. So only the 2016 units are actually recalled. The affected units require a simple rewiring which will be done for free by the dealers.

Several 2015-2016 Hyundai Sonatas are being recalled because of their faulty panoramic sunroofs. The improper bonding of the wind deflector at the front of the sunroof can cause the deflector to obstruct the proper closing of the sunroof. This can result in the sunroof being blown away entirely. A total of 62,811 cars are affected which include Sonatas built from May 28, 2014 to March 18, 2016. After a thorough inspection, the dealers will add a new bonding to the anchor or the wind deflector to fasten it properly. The procedure will be conducted free of cost.
