Ram 1200 debuts alongside Ram 1500 Rebel and Limited in UAE & GCC

Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles’ truck brand, Ram, extended their Middle East line-up this week with the addition of the new Ram 1200, a metric-ton pickup truck, alongside new Rebel and Limited variants of the existing Ram 1500.

The carmaker felt the need to have an offering in the smaller pickup segment so as to have a full range of options as a truck-only brand, and thus the Ram 1200 was born, which is clearly a rebadged version of the Thai-built Mitsubishi L200. It is also offered as the Fiat Fullback in our region.

The Ram 1200 will launch in 2017 in both Single and Double Cab configurations, with three trim levels and a variety of gasoline and diesel engines.

All versions of the Ram 1200 have a maximum height of 1775mm, are up to 1785mm wide and have a wheelbase of 3000mm. The length varies depending on the configuration — 5245mm for Single Cab and 5370mm for Double Cab. The length of the cargo compartment also varies according to the configuration — 2265 mm for 2-door Single Cab and 1520mm for 4-door Double Cab. The payload capacity of the Ram 1200 is up to 1,165 kg, and it can tow up to 3 metric tons.

In the Middle East, the Ram 1200 will be available with two engine options: a 126 hp or 134 hp 2.5-litre diesel, or a 130 hp 2.4-litre petrol. A manual gearbox is standard for both diesel and petrol engines. An optional automatic transmission will also be available.

The Ram 1200 will offer a 4×2 version (rear-wheel drive) as well as a 4×4 version (all-wheel drive). All 4×4 versions are equipped with a manual or, on automatic versions, an electronic selector for 2-high, 4-high and 4-low modes.

The new Ram 1200 was revealed alongside the Ram 1500 Rebel and 1500 Limited, two new additions to the expanding Ram portfolio in the Middle East. The Ram 1500 line-up will expand from eight versions currently to 17 different options next year, which will include the Sport and the Long Horn.
