2017 Honda Civic Type R prototype revealed

Feast your eyes on the all-new “prototype” of the 2017 Honda Civic Type R which is on display at the Paris Motor Show 2016.

The Type R is based on the recently-revealed standard hatchback and here, it can be seen wearing a highly reflective, finely-grained brushed aluminium-effect finish.

The front bumper has been increased in width, now with extra slats, along with the front and rear fenders. It also receives a winged carbon-fibre splitter highlighted with a red accent stripe upfront and on the hood, is a centrally-placed hood scoop with a trapezoidal recess, which we assume to be functional. With the addition of smoked lenses for the LED headlights, indicators and side repeaters, the prototype gains a more aggressive persona.

As per some sources, the motor the Type-R employs could produce as much as 340 ponies at the crank.

Carbon-fibre side skirts run the length of the wheelbase, slotted between large 20-inch piano black alloy wheels with red accents wrapped in 245-section high-performance tyres. We also observed unique peaks at the roof flanks pointing backwards.

At the rear end, as expected, the Type R features an enormous rear wing to provide sufficient down-force at speed and a Ferrari-458-mimicking triple tailpipe arrangement, with the smaller centre pipe getting a red tip.

The production model is expected to be not too different from this concept and will be showcased in the early part of 2017. Following which, the Type R will be first made available in European markets during the second half of 2017, while availability of the hot hatch in the GCC has yet to be announced. The production model will be manufactured at Honda’s UK Manufacturing based in Swindon, which is the global manufacturing hub for the five-door hatchback.
