Dubai almost doubles parking charges in some areas

Parking fees in Dubai have been increased, according to a new government resolution. In many cases, the charges have been doubled, and mostly affects the older areas of Dubai, from Deira to Satwa. Parking charges will also be applied to more hours per day.

According to Khaleej Times, the resolution outlines a new tariff for select controlled public parking areas. The resolution aims to encourage the use of public transport within the area covered by the amended tariff while also increasing the generation rate in controlled parking facilities.

Paid public parking in Dubai will be divided into two categories. The first category includes the public parking areas where the higher fees will be applicable, amounting to about 23% of all paid parking spaces, as shown on the map

The amended rates for parking on the side of the street include Dhs 2 for 30 minutes, Dhs 4 for one hour, Dhs 8 for two hours, Dhs 12 for three hours and Dhs 16 for four hours.

The new rates for parking lots are Dhs 3 for one hour, Dhs 6 for two hours, Dhs 8 for three hours, Dhs 12 for four hours, Dhs 15 for five hours and Dhs 20 for 24 hours.

The second parking category includes all parking spaces that will continue with the old existing rates. That means these areas will remain at Dhs 2 for one hour, Dhs 5 for two hours, Dhs 8 for three hours and Dhs 11 for four hours. The rates for parking lots wil stay at Dhs 2 for one hour, Dhs 4 for two hours, Dhs 5 for three hours, Dhs 7 for four hours and Dhs 10 for 24 hours. The rate for multi-level parking garages is Dhs 5 per hour.

The parking fees will be applicable for 14 hours per day from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm on working days. Fridays and official holidays will still be free.

The new seasonal permit rates for parking spaces on the side of the street are Dhs 1,400 for three months, Dhs 2,500 for six months and Dhs 4,500 for one year. The new rates for Seasonal Parking Permits for parking lots are Dhs 700 for three months, Dhs 1,300 for six months and Dhs 2,500 for one year. The new tariff rates for Seasonal Parking Permits for multi-level parking garages are Dhs 2,000 for three months, Dhs 4,000 for six months, Dhs 8,000 for one year and Dhs 300 for three months for students.

It is unclear exactly when the new fees will be implemented, but the official statement says “the resolution will be considered effective 60 days after its publication in the Official Gazette,” so it may be as soon as two months.
