Jeep confirms Hellcat-powered Grand Cherokee

2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT

Jeep SRT enthusiasts can rejoice, as Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has confirmed their plans for a Hellcat-powered Jeep Grand Cherokee. This will sit alongside the Charger and Challenger SRT Hellcat duo, but may not even be SRt-badged.

Clearing rumours that have been around hovering around since early 2015, Michael Manley, Jeep’s CEO, says that a production version of the Grand Cherokee SRT Hellcat will be available to customers by late 2017.

Details are scarce, but the Grand Cherokee Hellcat should receive the same 6.2-litre supercharged V8 producing 707 hp and 880 Nm of torque. It might a bit toned down though, to preserve the all-wheel drive system. The SUV should also retain its TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Hellcat should enter the market as a 2018 model. But whether the SUV will be badged as a ‘Trackhawk’ or as an ‘SRT’ is still in question, following FCA’s decision to make SRT a Dodge-exclusive division.

Comments

  1. this GC design looks so outdated – their excessive tuning efforts don’t work IMHO..

  2. Would it be based on the current platform ?Since Jeep is also rumoured to launch the all new GC and Grand Wagoneer models around 2017-2018.
