2016 Mercedes-Benz GLS officially revealed
Mercedes-Benz has released the 2016 GLS, which is essentially the new face-lifted GL-Class.
The exterior gets a new front fascia with new headlights and LED daytime running lights. The grille gets a bigger logo and both the bumpers have had subtle changes. It also gets new LED taillights, new alloy wheel designs and new body paint colours.
Inside the 7-seater, it gets a new centre-console which includes the new 8-inch screen . The interior also gets a new touchpad, updated 3-spoke steering wheel wrapped in Nappa leather, and the optional air ionization system.
Safety features in the GLS includes all their latest equipment which includes the standard COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS, Crosswind Assist, ATTENTION ASSIST, PRE-SAFE, Brake Assist BAS, cruise control, ESP and electronic AWD traction system with 4ETS. Optional equipment include the Driver Assistance Package which adds DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Speed Limit Assist, BAS PLUS with Cross- Traffic Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist and PRE-SAFE Brake with pedestrian detection.
There is also an optional night vision system to go with the LED Intelligent Light System, plus there’s the MAGIC VISION CONTROL which improves visibility thanks to the heated adaptive windscreen wiper system.
Under the hood, the 4.7-litre V8 twin-turbocharged on the GLS 550 gets a power boost to make it now deliver 449 hp and 516 Nm of torque. The GLS 350 with the 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbo gets 362 hp and 500 Nm of torque. The top model GLS 63 AMG outputs 577 hp and 760 Nm of torque. The GLS 350d gets the 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel engine, which produces about 255 hp and 616 Nm of torque. All the models, besides the GLS 63, gets a 9-speed automatic transmission with optional low-range configuration and centre differential lock.
The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLS should be available in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other GCC countries sometime in the middle of next year.
