2016 Toyota Prius officially unveiled
Toyota has revealed the all-new 2016 Prius, which is set to be the fourth-generation model.
The all-new Prius comes with a number of new improvements such as a chassis that is now 60% more rigid than the outgoing model, while a lower centre of gravity is due to the powertrain now placed lower.
Details of the hybrid engine has not been revealed yet but Toyota claims there is a 10% improvement in fuel economy. There is a newly developed nickel-metal hydride hybrid battery which is smaller than before, but more durable and with increased charging performance.
Interior cabin space and trunk capacity has improved because the new model is 60 mm longer, 15 mm wider and 20 mm lower than its predecessor. It also gets a new front suspension and rear double wishbone suspension to improve ride quality.
The new Prius has a host of safety equipment which include systems like lane departure alert, pre-collision system, dynamic radar cruise control, automatic high beam and the Europe-exclusive road sign assist.
With UAE already deregulating fuel prices and other GCC countries looking set to follow suit, we might see the Toyota Prius being officially sold by authorised dealers in this region in the near future.
