2016 Mercedes-Benz G500 2

Mercedes-Benz has revealed the 2016 G-Class facelift, with the G 500 getting a new engine, while the AMG models get slightly more power.

The G 500 gets a new twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 motor, which produces about 422 hp and 610 Nm of torque. This is enough to propel it from 0-100 kph in 5.9 seconds.

The G 63 AMG gets the same 5.5-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, but gets a power boost. It now produces 571 hp and 760 Nm of torque, which helps it reach from 0-100 kph in 5.4 seconds.

The G 65 AMG also has the same 6.0-litre V12 biturbo engine, but it now produces 630 hp and 1000 Nm of torque. This gets it from 0-100 kph in 5.3 seconds.

While all three models have gotten more power, performance figures in terms of acceleration remain the same for all of them.

The suspension has been retuned as well to provide better handling and more comfort.

Looking at the exterior, G 500 models are especially easy to identify by their restyled bumpers and now standard AMG flared wheel arches in the colour of the vehicle. In the inside, there are minor changes in the instrument cluster.

Mercedes-AMG Edition 463

There is also a new EDITION 463 special model by Mercedes-AMG. The interior specs include a two-tone instrument panel, two-tone seats in designo leather with side bolsters in carbon-look leather and contrasting topstitching, seat and door centre panels in a diamond design, carbon-fibre trim and door pulls in nappa leather.

Visually, it gets a stainless steel underguard, AMG sports stripes along the sides, a protective-strip insert in black aluminium look and 21-inch forged wheels.

The 2016 Mercedes-Benz G-Class should making its debut in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other GCC countries before the end of the year.

Keep track of the latest prices and updates in the Mercedes-Benz G-Class buyer guide.
