Volvo S60 Cross Country — forget lowering, this one is lifted

Volvo was by no means the first company to create the lift-kit car market, but it certainly has the largest range nowadays. Volvo introduced its first Cross Country model back in 1997, and has since expanded the lineup with lifted versions of the V40, V60 and V70, all of which were wagons. This here is the S60 Cross Country, their first ever lifted sedan.

Debuting at the Detroit Auto Show next week, the Volvo S60 is essentially the same as the regular sedan, but with a 2.5-inch (63 mm) increased ride height and subtle lower-body cladding, with 18-inch or 19-inch wheel options.

The standard engine is the 250 hp “T5” 2.5-litre turbocharged inline-5 with all-wheel-drive, although oddly enough, Europe will get a front-driven diesel version as well.

We’re not sure how well it will do anywhere, but it is certainly a cool concept that has popped in and out of automotive history since the 1980s. It is unlikely to come to the GCC though.
