BMW X5 Security Plus
BMW is extending their range of armoured vehicles by introducing a new X5 Security Plus model. Designed for businessmen and politicians under threat from assassins and kidnappers, the new Plus model features a “class 6” resistance rating which offers protection against AK-47 assault rifles and everything smaller.

BMW has specifically outfitted the X5 Security Plus with high-performance steel moldings and panels, added body joint protection, a fragment resistant polycarbonate coating, splinter resistant technology, and special tires which can be driven up to 150 km at speeds of upto 80 kph even if they are fully deflated. To deal with this added weight, the company equips the armoured X5’s with stronger springs and dampers, a high-performance braking system, and a revised chassis control system with active roll stabilization.

The X5 Security also features an intercom that allows occupants to remain safely in the vehicle while talking to individuals located outside. If a fast getaway is required, the driver can activate the audible and visual alarm system which warns fellow motorists to get out of the way.

Power is provided by BMW’s 355 hp 4.8-litre V8 with 475 Nm of torque. Even then, the X5’s performance is seriously hampered by the additional weight of the armoured parts, as 0-100 kph takes 8.2 seconds and the top speed is limited to 180 kph.

The BMW X5 Security range can be special-ordered from GCC dealers, if you cannot stand the threat from taxi drivers and Land Cruisers any more on the streets of Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
