2014 BMW 4-Series Convertible to debut in LA Auto Show
BMW’s busy year continues as they introduce to us the BMW 4-Series Convertible. The convertible is expected to make its official debut at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show in November.
The 4-Series Convertible looks just as bold as the M4 concept shown a while back, except that the top folds all the way back into the boot, which BMW state is good for 370 litres of cargo space with the roof up and 220 litres when you have the roof down.
The new convertible will be offered as a 428i, featuring the twin-turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder which produces 240 hp and 345 Nm of torque, and hits from 0-100 kph in 6.2 seconds (claimed). There will also be a 435i variant which will feature the twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six cylinder engine which produces 300 hp and 406 Nm of torque. The 435i will reportedly hit from 0-100 kph in 5.5 seconds. Both the variants will be electronically limited to a top speed of 250 kph and will feature a standard 8-speed sport automatic transmission.
The 428i Convertible will be offered with a choice of rear-wheel drive or with optional xDrive; BMW’s all-wheel drive system, while the 435i Convertible will only be driven by the rear. The former will ride on 18-inch alloys and the latter on 19-inch premium light-weight alloys.
As for trim levels, the 4-Series Convertible will come in three variants, namely- Sport Line, Luxury Line and M Sport. Characteristic features for the Sport Line include gloss-black themed exterior parts and a likewise red and black themed interior. The ‘Luxury Line’ gets high-gloss chrome exterior bits and similar chrome fittings and wraps for select interior parts complemented by wood. The ‘M Sport’ punches in an ‘M-aerodynamic’ package which adds larger intakes, rear diffuser and side-skirts. The package will also include the M Sport suspension and the M Sport Brakes.
The 2014 BMW 4-Series Convertible will hit US showrooms by the first quarter of 2014, which means we could expect an early to mid 2014 entry into the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and the rest of the GCC.

This is confusing…
What is BMW trying to establish here…? They already got a 3 series model line-up going both sedan and coupe; and they got a 6 series model as well with the close enough variants? It’s hard for me to see where the 4 series fits? Looks like an awkwardly stretched 3 series with a funkier roof.
Looks to me as of BMW copied the Mercedes E-class coupe! Although design-wise I do see elements from the 5 series and the current 3 series which raises the question whether BMW is making cars for the sake of ‘Quantity’ versus ‘Quality’?
We already saw the 5 series GT achieving miserable sales figures – globally…
