Chevrolet Malibu 2014 “emergency” facelift revealed

2014 Chevrolet Malibu
The 2013 Chevrolet Malibu has been selling better than the previous version in the UAE, largely due to an extensive advertising campaign and cheap pricing here. But the GCC as a whole is a miniscule market compared to the United States, where the latest Malibu became a large-enough sales flop for General Motors to quickly go back to the drawing board and churn out a facelift within a year of its debut.

The new Malibu has also been a critical failure in the United States, often coming last in comparison tests by U.S. magazines due to its dull frontal styling and below-average rear legroom. So for 2014, both issues have been addressed, with a new front-end clip and more rear knee-room.

There are unspecified mechanical tweaks as well, though it is clearly very minor, since even the “Camaro-inspired” tail lamps have not been changed. Ironically, the 2014 Chevy Camaro will not have similar tail lamps any more.

It is unknown if the changes will make it to the GCC-spec model, since the Middle East gets the Malibu from Korea, while the US-spec model is built in the United States itself.

Keep track of prices and updates in the Chevrolet Malibu buyer guide.

  1. Nicely done, looks more sharper now.

  2. previous center console was better

  3. Well some minor mechanical tweaks are present:

-added Intake Valve Lift Control (iVLC) to supposedly improve low-end torque and lower emissions.
    – few other mechanical revisions

After all that, the dumb end result is the 2.5L ‘s power drops 1 hp from 197hp to 196hp while the torque drops by 7Nm of torque to 252.

For those interested in more power (unfortunately GCC markets are currently out of the equation), you can opt for the 2.0L turbo version. The power remains the same at 259 hp, but torque is up by 47Nm of torque, raising it to 400 Nm of torque.

  4. Yaakhiiii… Take my fuluus!!!

  5. Not exactly different unlike the civic facelift. But the malibu was never really that bad though.

  6. Interior look is not as good as exterior

  7. another reason why the new malibu sucks
and the 2010 model is the best !
oh u dont know them yet? let me enlighten you:-
. Made in Korea !! while the older bu is made in USA.
. Excellent rear leg and knee room. (I no coz I got 1)
. powerful 3.6L V6, 0-60 in under 7 sec (no chance the new malibu will match or even to come so close to that!)
    . paddle shifters baby !
. Bigger and more powerful body !
. not mentioning the 2013 malibu is still NEW (mechanical failures??.. mmmm…), and they have just changed it after only 1 year of production !!

  8. Good design and performance!!!
