Audi settles lawsuit over 2002-06 A4 CVT failures
A class-action lawsuit against the Volkswagen Group of America was brought on by owners of 2002-2006 Audi A4 and A6 models over alleged defects with the CVT automatic. That lawsuit, involving 64,000 cars in the United States, has now been settled by Audi.
According to the New York Times, the German automaker continues to deny all allegations, claiming that they settled the case because it was “mindful of the fact that future protracted litigation, with the burdens and uncertainties it creates, may not be in the best interests of their customers.”
As part of the settlement, several parts of the original powertrain coverage, including transmission control modules, will have their warranty bumped up from 4 years/80,000 km to 10 years/160,000 km for the original owner, and it will reimburse owners who paid for specific repairs if they occurred within the extended warranty coverage. The agreement also includes trade-in reimbursements for lost value if the vehicle was sold or traded with no repair. Excluded from the settlement are claims for personal injury, property damage or subrogation.
However, neither the extended warranty nor the settlement is valid outside the United States, so if you’re in the market for a used Audi with a CVT, we’d say skip it.

Nope all the Europeans, Koreans and Americans got more popular after recession, when they paid more attention to quality, design, look and feel and came up with good pricing and warranties. Before that everyone was purchasing Toyotas, Nissans and Hondas, except few who would go for Audi’s and Volkswagon’s. Benz and BMW’s were always popular. So less Audi’s of 2002-2006’s less complaints, and in Gulf anyway we get somewhat outdated specs and inferior engines, who knows during same time we may have got Audi’s with more reliable Auto transmissions that time.

2009+ Audi’s with CVT are excellent, you can’t even tell its CVT when in S mode.

No need to explain Rakesh, it won’t get into their head, cvt’s have come a long way, just as automatics did from manual. I think people forgot how many recalls where there for auto and manual cars with transmission issues.
