Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG 6×6 launched in Dubai

2013 Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG 6x6
Stories are popping up all over about this Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG 6×6 model, a limited-production monstrosity that’s designed to be sold only to one kind of clientele. Of course, we were not invited to the launch in Dubai because Mercedes-Benz didn’t deem us worthy enough to show our brown faces at the event.

Powered by AMG’s usual 5.5-litre twin-turbocharged V8, good for 536 hp and 758 Nm of torque, it has to move an oversized truck that weighs 3,783 kg. It has more ground clearance, bigger tyres, extra-wide body fenders and five locking differentials, so you can be sure that even an amateur can never get stuck.

Inside, there is seating for four, with the rear bench seat removed in favour of two more bucket seats, moved further back for more legroom.

Mercedes-Benz is looking to build maybe 20 or 30 cars annually, for a price of Dhs 1.5 million, or probably beyond Dhs 2 million with the customary dealer mark-up in the UAE. Of course, if you’re looking to have a similar amount of fun, without buying an overpriced parking nightmare, there’s always the Ford Raptor, eh?

  1. Always have been a big fan of the mighty Gelandewagen. This monstrosity on the other-hand, im not so sure although I do like the added interior space inside.
For me, the G500 Short Wheel Base was the best version.

In terms of value, the Ford Raptor indeed would be a better choice than this G monster but I do think the Raptor too would be a pain in the arse to park.

  2. Middle East PR is going from bad to worst. A majority of PR house with automotive clients have no idea about the brand they represent – be it products, history, innovation or heritage. For them it is still a ‘seller’s market’ and the belief that a generous amount of PR space devoted in ‘chosen few [usually biased on who knows who network basis’] publications will do the trick.
Has anyone really evaluated what this PR really is? Just re-hashed supplied material!

  3. ability but not any styling.
agreed with Ironman . raptor is a better choice

  4. not invited because your indian?

  5. Stupid car indeed!!

  6. no point in inviting auto journalists people who buy this pricey suv are unlikely to read reviews. they would simply buy it on a whim. Mercedes would be targeting them specifically as they have more money than sense.
BTW I am not defending them just looking at it objectively.

I wouldn’t have minded really if no other auto journalists were invited. It’s that they invited a whole bunch of local magazines that no one reads.

  7. Mash, I don’t get why you always use the “oh I am not white or Arab and that is why everybody ignores me” card so often.

To be honest with you, you get invited to a whole lot of these events. Hell, don’t you get Porsches, Bentleys etc.. to test drive? Come on, for a website that is run by yourself and another person (not saying it is a bad website, it actually is quite informative) you are getting quite a lot of attention.

You should be patient and keep on building your base with loyal readers (I sure belong to them), instead of always playing the victim, which IMO makes me think lowly of you sometimes 🙂

Aside from the fact that we have 5 times more readers than Wheels, and that we’ve been around for 8 years, the time for building a base is long gone, and the only thing limiting us is the obvious matter that is rampant in this country.

  8. please tell me why is this tin box is soo expensive and popular!

would rather buy range rover or cruiser
