2014 Chevrolet SS debuts, updated version of Lumina SS

2014 Chevrolet SS
General Motors has launched the 2014 Chevrolet SS sports sedan in the United States, just a few days after the original Holden Commodore SS V debuted in Australia. The external difference between the two is pretty much just the badge on the grille, and the U.S. model will also be sourced from Australia.

The Chevrolet SS is powered by a 6.2-litre “LS3” V8 producing 415 hp and 562 Nm of torque, so essentially it has about the same performance as the Chevrolet CSV CR8 that we used to get in the Middle East a few years ago. GM claims a 0-100 kph time of around 5 seconds, but our previous experience tells us it’s pretty tough to match that time, what with all that torquey wheelspin.

The gearbox is a 6-speed automatic with paddle-shifters, and there is no mention of a manual. Other features include four-piston Brembo calipers up front, a single sliding-piston in the rear, 19-inch aluminium wheels, and other aluminium components such as the bonnet and the boot-lid.

Inside, features include power-adjustable leather seats, 9-speaker Bose sound system, head-up display and safety tech such as lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitor and optional automatic parking.

It is unknown at this time if the Chevrolet SS will return to the GCC, as the Commodore-based Lumina range was gradually discontinued in the UAE a couple of years ago in favour of the Malibu.

  6. I picked up one of the last CR8’s sold in the UAE 3 years ago, still love driving it. I’m hoping the new supercharged version will be sold here soon.

  7. My cousin drives a 2000 it’s UGLY

  8. Love the previous shape. This one sure has the performance but, does not look aggressive and beastly.

  9. I drive the CR8 LS3 which is the model before this one. Perfomance wise I guess they are evenly matched with a bit of advantage to the new chevy. Interior wise, New SS just kills the old lumina. However, exterior looks, it is not even close. The CR8 looks 100 times better, in my opinion, than the new SS. The new one looks like an upgraded Malibu with an ugly rear end and a stupid spoiler.
