2014 Cadillac ELR makes debut at Detroit Auto Show
Cadillac have revealed their latest offering, the ELR at the Detroit Auto Show. It is the luxury brand’s hybrid-electric model.
It’s basically a Chevrolet Volt underneath, with all the gimmicks of a Cadillac on top. The Volt itself is based on a Chevy Cruze platform, so like its siblings, the Cadillac ELR is also front-wheel-drive. The exterior follows the usual design cues of Cadillac cars, combining the forward-leaning profile with sharp headlights and taillights. Aerodynamics was a major priority for the design obviously, to put as less strain as possible on the lithium-ion battery, which is mated with a 1.4-litre petrol engine. The combined output is 207 hp and 400 Nm of torque.
The interior gets high-quality leather all around, combined with chrome and wooden accents. It gets Cadillac’s CUE multimedia system which uses natural voice-recognition, capacitive touch and hand gestures used on smart phones and tablets, to control different operations.
The ELR makes for a green alternative to the big-butted CTS coupe, but don;t let the racy looks fool you into thinking it’s a sportier alternative.
